Word bus #2
Heard this twice in the same day a few weeks ago, but it’s such an odd word I didn’t forget it.
Today’s word is: ABLUTION
The act of washing or cleansing; specifically, the washing of the body, or some part of it, as a religious rite; The water used in cleansing; The rinsing of the priest’s hand following the Communion with, depending on rite, water or a mix of it and...

Words are like buses
Do you ever hear a word twice in a short space of time that you generally never hear being said?
Today’s word is: INFLECTION
In grammar, inflection or inflexion is the modification of a word to express different grammatical categories such as tense, mood, voice, aspect, person, number, gender and case. Conjugation is the inflection of verbs; declension is the inflection of nouns,...

EXTRA! EXTRA! Icelandic Volcanic Ash Cloud is...
I am wanting a news headline to be “Huge Frickin’ Volcanic Ash Cloud is Cool - the Earth is still alive” with a sub heading of “Some minor disruptions at airports caused by this NATURAL event”. For fu*ks sake, no one has died, stop acting like vultures, and waiting for someone to.
My big problem is that as much fun as it is, it’s still just another geeky...

SQL GROUP BY →
A valuable resource for correctly using the GROUP BY syntax of SQL. Rather than trying to combine multiple columns in one select, use an inner join to “sub”-select data, and join it back in. I found this invaluable.

– - guy from the iPad launch video http://www.apple.com/ipad/#video
Quite possibly the most pretentious, cheesy and downright insulting sentence of the decade.
One of my favourite Simpson's quotes
Marge: Do you notice something different about Bart? Homer: New glasses? Marge: No, he seems sad. Homer: Probably misses his old glasses. Marge: I’d ask him what’s wrong, but I’m afraid I might smother him. Homer: Yeah, then we’d get the chair. Marge: Homer, that’s not what I meant. Homer: It was, Marge, admit it.
(Because it’s the 20th Birthday of The...

Grinds my gears #2
Well, not so much grinds my gears, but it annoys me when people don’t stick to simple computing spelling for terms.
Par Examplé:
It’s DIALOG for a pop up that requires a response;
It’s DIALOGUE for conversation between two people.
It’s PROGRAM for describing a computer application;
It’s PROGRAMME for a TV show (or a musical concert etc.)

Shadow Complex vs. Metroid →
I’m a little bit sad that it’s taken a Nintendo editor to write this article, and the game not be developed in any way for a Nintendo console. Seems like the Nintendo editors are so fed up with the crap they have to review on the Wii, they’re turning to reviewing games on other consoles.
Grinds my gears #1
Do you know what really grinds my gears? It must have been twice this morning on the widest pavement in Swansea - Princess Way where people are so ignorant they cross the line of the path you are walking without any real awareness of what they’re doing, so much that you have to move out of the way. I understand on a normal sized pavement there’s generally only enough room for 2 or 3...

I told the lead programmer he can't compile in 32 bit because he touches himself at night.

he was lost for words but everyone in the office seemed to like it.
I think they’re making these Transformers films to try and justify me buying an HD cinema in my home. I think they’re doing it the right way.
