Paying for things

My Dad bought mum a phone as a gift about a year ago, in like phones 4 u or the Carphone Warehouse or something. He wanted to pay in cash so that it wouldn’t come up on a statement, and my mum would see it. They told him they didn’t hold change to give him any, so he had to go to a different shop to break a note so he had the exact amount to pay.

Today I’m trying to pay for my bond and rent on a house, and the only way to pay for it without being charged (banker’s draft) is cash.
